Rock Properties and Geomechanics

The physical characteristics of reservoir rocks describe how rocks store fluids and to allow fluids to flow through them while geomechanics describe how subsurface rocks deform or fail in response to changes of stress, pressure and temperature. Faculty in petroleum engineering is leading research in these domains and have specialized expertise and facilities where they characterize rock properties and their geomechanical behavior under various conditions and in various reservoir settings whether conventional or unconventional.
