AADE Student Chapter

The University of Houston has established an AADE Student Chapter to further increase the knowledge of students interested in the drilling aspect of the oil & gas industry. Our aim is to give the students exposure to engineers in the industry to gain knowledge as well as get insight into career paths.

American Association of Petroleum Geologists

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the world’s largest geological group (with ~30,000 members) that strives for the advancement in geological technology and research while providing a wide variety of professional opportunities such as conferences, publications, and educational services. The University of Houston’s AAPG Student Chapter bridges the gap between professionals and UH geoscience students interested in careers in oil and gas exploration. UH AAPG hosts monthly meetings, guest lecturers from academia and industry, field trips, and other social activities that are geared toward promoting student involvement in petroleum geology. Meetings are held on campus and are open to students, faculty, and industry professionals.

American Petroleum Institute Houston Chapter — UH Student Chapter

Our mission is to provide students with invaluable resources, including industry insights, technical standards, and career opportunities. Through guest lectures, workshops, site visits, and networking events, we aim to enhance understanding of the energy sector and prepare our members for successful careers. The API Houston — UH Student Chapter serves as a platform for students to connect with professionals, gain hands-on experience, and stay informed about the latest advancements and challenges in the industry. We welcome students from all disciplines who are interested in the dynamic field of petroleum and energy.

American Rock Mechanics Association — UH Student Chapter

The American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA) is a professional and international engineering and scientific society, which promotes interaction among specialists, practitioners, scholars, and educators in rock mechanics and geomechanics. ARMA encourages individuals and accepts members who share an interest in rock mechanics.

Pi Epsilon Tau

Pi Epsilon Tau is the national petroleum engineering honor society. We are the Phi Chapter at the University of Houston. The goals of this organization are to foster close bonds between members and the petroleum industry, broaden the scope of activities of its members, and to maintain thehigh ideals and standards of the engineering profession.

In order to be eligible for membership one must have completed Petrophysics, have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 for undergraduates and 3.5 for graduate students, and be a petroleum engineering major. Students must attend a certain number of events in order to be inducted into the society with a onetime lifetime fee. Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts — UH Student Chapter

SPWLA UH Student Chapter’s vision is to become a recognized member of academia worldwide for their exceptional ingenuity, knowledge, and creativity through active participation of high quality members and leadership. It is our goal to create a team who is passionate about Petrophysics, and who will actively seek out knowledge through research, continued learning opportunities, and through collaboration with other engineering disciplines. 

SPE Student Chapter

University of Houston has established a Society of Petroleum Engineers student chapter. The chapter invites industry leaders and distinguished lecturers to give talks on various subjects, conducts field trips to industry sites, and has a busy social calendar. Learn more at uhspe.com.
